THE RACE

Oxford Cambridge Lightweight Boat Race, founded 1975

The Lightweight Boat Race, between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge was founded in 1975 by Richard Bates of St. John's College, Cambridge and raced over 2000 meters in Henley on Thames until 2018. For the first time, on 23rd March 2019 the race was held on the Tideway in London over the same Championship Course as the open weight University Boat Races.

 

The Lightweight Women's Boat Race joined the Henley Boat Races in 1984 and raced there until 2019 before joining the men on the Tideway in 2020.

 

 

The 2022 Lightweight Boat Races were held on the Tideway on Sunday 20th March

 

Cambridge won the toss for the Lightweight Women's Race and chose Surrey station. Cambridge won by 15 lengths in a time of 19 minutes and 59 seconds.

In the Lightweight Men's Race, Oxford won the toss and also chose Surrey. Cambridge won by 5 length in a time of 18 minutes and 1 second
