Oxford Cambridge Lightweight Boat Race, founded 1975
The Lightweight Boat Race, between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge was founded in 1975 by Richard Bates of St. John's College, Cambridge and raced over 2000 meters in Henley on Thames until 2018. For the first time, on 23rd March 2019 the race was held on the Tideway in London over the same Championship Course as the open weight University Boat Races.
In 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions the races were held on the River Great Ouse in Ely, Cambridgshire.
The 2021 Lighweight Women's Boat Race was on Tuesday 18th May 2021 at 14:00. Cambridge won by by 2.5L in a time of 18:08
The 2021 Lighweight Men's Boat Race was held on Sunday 23rd May 2021 at 14:00. Oxford won by 1.5L in a time of 14:19
Due to COVID-19 restrictions the races in 2021 are taking place behind closed doors.
